In what turned out to be a record breaking event for the northern fortress, hundreds of performers from all over Britain came together at the impressive military fortification of Fort George to take part in Historic Scotland’s largest event of 2010 The Colossal Celebration of the Centuries
Over 250 re-enactors covering various periods of Scottish history from 2nd century Romans to World War II paratroopers, were joined by over 6000 visitors over the two days in a weekend that certainly lived up to its name.
The grand parade into the central arena was just the start of an exciting day of informative and impressive interactive shows, displays and presentations covering everything from the marching soldiers of the Roman period to the fighting troops of the twentieth century. An exciting display from The Golden Lions, Scotland's only professional parachute display team, and a staggering aerobatics display by a low flying Spitfire encouraged from the crowd "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" while re-encators of every era kept everyone more than entertained throughout the day.
Swing Sensation's contribution to the event was in the World War II zone where they and The Swing Doctors, had the crowds jumpin' and jivin' between demonstration sessions when the could explore the impressive displays of vehicles, weapons and demonstrations explaining more about the way of life "back home" during the war years.
That Swing Sensation are a group of Scottish musicians
who play big band, swing, jazz and trad music.
From jazzy duets up to the 15 piece big band they perform live music at events, festivals and functions in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayr, Stirling and throughout central Scotland.
